LGBT seniors: Out of the closet and nowhere to go
"In June, the queer community will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Stonewall. Along with that celebration comes the reality that many who were on the front lines of the queer civil-rights movement are now on a different front line as the first generation of out elderly queers. In 2009, some of the best-known voices of the queer community are that entity that truly dares not speak its name: old."To read the entire article, click here.

The play will be performed by “Performers for AIDS” on the parking lot of 1919 S. Broadway. You are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. The 2009 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is sponsored by the Ezekiel Project Ministry of MCCGSL, The Hope & Help Center and Performers for AIDS. Re: Lisa Wagaman - Memorial Service June 21st

www.HopeandHelpCenter.org
Dear Friends,

We wish to share additional details with you, related to the recent passing of Lisa Wagaman, and regarding an upcoming memorial service to give us an opportunity to celebrate the life of this special individual.

Thank you for the many wonderful phone calls, emails, notes and conversations sharing your stories and memories about our friend Lisa Wagaman. Lisa was certainly a pioneer in the fight for LGBTQ equality and an advocate for reproductive justice. Lisa was blessed to have a very large family of choice.

Lisa’s neighbors, Helen and Larry Minth have been close friends of Lisa for many years. Lisa listed them as her emergency contact and spent many holidays with the family. The Minth's have organized a community-wide memorial service for Lisa, incorporating all of the organizations and areas of service that were important to her. This service will be held on June 21, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Metropolitan Community Church of Greater St. Louis’s new location: 1919 S. Broadway in Soulard. MCCGSL is working with the Minth family, Pride St. Louis and other friends, family of choice, and community organizations in preparing the elements of this memorial service.

To learn more, please refer to the article by Colin Murphy, Senior Writer for The Vital Voice: http://www.thevitalvoice.com/node/3231. If you wish to share a memory or story about Lisa, please post it in the comments section of the article or email danny@mccgsl.org.

Also, please forward this information to your list-serves and others who may want to know. In lieu of flowers, the Minth family has requested that memorial gifts be made in Lisa’s honor to St. Louis Empowerment (3024 Locust, St. Louis, MO 63103), MCC of Greater St. Louis (1919 S. Broadway, St. Louis, MO 63104) or PRIDE St. Louis (PO Box 2826, St. Louis, MO 63111).
