Sherwood Forest Camp Provides Opportunity for Youth
via Daniel McCree Foundation
SHERWOOD FOREST CAMP
Did you know that families pay just $50 for their child to attend camp, regardless of the length of the session? Siblings cost only $25. However, the actual cost of camp is nearly $150 per camper, PER DAY. The difference is covered by your generous contributions. We thank you for making camp possible for hundreds of St. Louis children each summer!
The Daniel McCree Foundation supports this important organzation as both Alumni and Volunteer efforts. You too can support them, and the opportunities they make possible for our youth in need.

MCCGSL Choir wins regional How Sweet the Sound award for Best Overall Choir!
by Mccgsl Church on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 12:50pm
Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Saint Louis is excited to announce the results of the How Sweet the Sound: A Verizon Experience regional choir competition held at the Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri, on Monday, September 26, 2011. The Best Large Choir prize was awarded to Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Saint Louis (MCCGSL) for their 53 member choir performance of “Psalm 68, Let Our God Arise” by Kurt Carr. Jerry Smith, MCCGSL Director of Music, accepted the $10,000 award from Host Donald Lawrence in front of a packed house at the Scottrade Center.
Additionally, the MCCGSL choir was selected as Regional Competition, Best Overall Choir. As winners of this award, the MCCGSL choir received all expense paid travel to Los Angeles, California, to perform in the Verizon Best National Choir Competition on Friday, October 28, 2011, at the Staples Center. Each choir member received a medal with the inscription “Regional Competition, Best Overall Choir”; a Droid mobile phone, and a $50 gift certificate for activation.

Jerry Smith told the choir before the stage, “Sing to God and do not worry about anything else. We are here to worship and to give God our best.” Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Carol Trissell stated, “I am so proud of our church choir! Their vocal performance was amazing – truly the best of their three years in Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound competition. Yet, I am even more proud of their genuine, praise-filled spirits which demonstrated without a doubt that God’s love is for ALL people.”
MCC of Greater Saint Louis was founded in 1973 as an outreach to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities. Today, it has a membership of 413 and owns its own facility for worship and ministry at 1919 S. Broadway, in the Soulard neighborhood. Its mission is to accept, embody, and declare God’s love for all. MCCGSL also collaborates with other community nonprofits such as One St. Louis, Peter & Paul Community Services, Winter Outreach, St. Louis Pridefest, Black Pride, MetroEast Pride, St. Louis Effort for AIDS, Metropolitan Congregations United, Doorways, Food Outreach, Growing American Youth, and Show Me No Hate.

"Treasure Drive" Seeks your LGBTHistory Artifacts

on Behalf of: St. Louis Gay History Project
By: Colby Kluthe
October 23, 2010
(ST. LOUIS)
It may seem to casual visitor to resemble an episode of "Antiques Roadshow", however this Sunday's Treasure Drive seeks to rediscover our history as a local LGBT community.
In recent years, there has been a determined effort to preserve and share the rich heritage of Lesbian, Gay and Transgender history in the St. Louis region.
Photos courtesy of Colin Murphy collection
The group known as the St. Louis Gay History project, lead by several spirited volunteers will be at Bad Dog Bar & Grill this Sunday October 24th to collect artifacts, photos, and stories from anyone who may have items or experiences of interest.
This past summer, a group gathered to share stories about East St. Louis, with stories that dated from the early 1950's. Until recently, the search for local LGBT history was confined to the private collections held at Washington University. This group has not only made our history available to anyone of interest, it will soon be publishing a comprehensive book for an even wider distribution.
Here is how you can help:
Go back into your closet (just for a hot minute) to dig for scrapbooks, photo albums, documents, diaries, movies/videos, magazines, newspapers - anything that documents your own personal and St. Louis' LGBT history over the years. Especially needed is information pre 1990s.
Find items your "not sure about" and perhaps find answers.
There will be formal remarks around 3 pm. AND a special guest appearance by a famous 70s ICON. We have also added a special feature - On Site Scanning.
If you have items you

*Ticket Stubs, Brochures, Bulletins & Flyers
*Tee-Shirts, Buttons, novelties
*books, publications, postcards, photos
*video-tapes, film, audio formats ect.
*Written accounts of historical events, people or places
* "What -Have's- You"
Please bring items that you are willing to donate to the Project or items the Project can scan or copy.

TransHaven Missouri changes its name to TransHaven, reflecting it's multi-regional outreach.

on behalf of TRANSHAVEN
Oct 15, 2010
(ST. LOUIS)
Our First Year
It has been a while, but we are still here. As you may have noticed, we have changed the name of our operating company to TransHaven. While our corporate entity remains TransHaven Missouri, Inc., we felt ‘TransHaven Missouri’ created unnecessary boundaries to those of our Community living in nearby areas, such as the Metro East Side of St Louis in Illinois that are not served.
We are in fact, working at this time with a small Trans group in Illinois. Our ‘friend base’ on Facebook (which remains TransHaven Missouri) extends to people and organizations within and outside of the United States.

A busy year in our work and advocacy, the establishment of a fixed base of operations in our office suite on Arsenal St in St Louis and attending conferences throughout the nation in Columbus (Ohio), Dallas, Washington, D.C. (where we also lobbied for ENDA), Concord (New Hampshire) Philadelphia, and right back to Columbus in August. And right ‘close to home,’ we work our way to Kansas City and to Jefferson City on Lobby Days, and made our presence known at four Pride Festival events including Paducah (KY) Pride in September.
In our work, we have joined two separate local LGBT Coalitions working such issues as the LGBT Homeless and Anti-Violence, working with a number of Transgender Activists across the nation and we are in the process of joining a coalition of state transgender organizations, in which we will share a knowledge base of skills and information in the fight for Equality of the Transgender Community.
Local to St Louis, we have established a monthly Discussion / Support Group for the ‘Gender Community’ (Transsexual, Transgender, GenderQueer and Intersex) and will launch our Trans*Continental Breakfast for the ‘Gender Community’ later this month. Upcoming events include the 1st Annual Trans Family Picnic and we will be sponsoring a film at the St Louis International Film Festival in November and the Transgender Day of Remembrance Memorial to be held on the evening of November 20th.
Dear to our hearts are our Youth and all of the Youth, meaning LGBTIQ Youth inclusively. We have joined the advisory board of Project Safe Harbor and we are working very close with the ‘I Care Campaign.’ That said, we will be announcing our ‘TransLine’ very soon, where we establish a phone number to call for those of the Transgender Community looking for referrals to services and organizations and if need be, a connection to a suicide prevention counselor or other support.
Yes, a lot of work yet to do for the Trans Community and the LGBT Community as a whole, as we step forward for Equality. But we are not looking back.

In Equality,
Robyn

Reaching Beyond Borders, TransHaven is known to "cross that line"
On September 26th, a delegation from the St. Louis region will travel to Paducah, Kentucky to represent the St. Louis region during the 4th Annual Pride Picnic. Paducah Kentucky, located about three hours southeast of St. Louis, is argueably the "worlds smallest city" with its own pride event.

Robyn Carolyn Montague, Chairperson of TransHaven, along with Metro East Pride Vice Presidents Colin Murphy and Colby Kluthe, saw this as an opportunity of outreach and support to LGBT residents of Paducah, as well as our own rural Southern Illinois LGBT communites.
Robyn Montague, also known as Revlon Robyn, is known to "prowl" to wherever the wind takes her. You may find Robyn or her husband Carl at events and venues near and far.
Needless to say, MEP was in no way suprised that she had elected to "prowl" the hills of Kentucky as well. We dont often have the opportunity to meet many of our followers in person, thus an opportunity for MEP as well.
Also upcoming, join TransHaven & RevlonRobyn for the "Prowling with Robyn" Event. (October 2nd, accross the St. Louis Metro Area.)

New Book Offers UNCOMMON HOPE In The Midst Of HIV/AIDS Pandemic

http://www.hopeandhelpcenter.org/
New Book Offers UNCOMMON HOPE In The Midst Of HIV/AIDS PandemicYesterday at 10:05pm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December1, 2009
“AIDS has never been about the body alone. It is a condition of the body, mind, and spirit. AIDS crosses the depths of despair, soars on clouds of uncommon hope, and sits in hushed silence while time passes and no cure is forthcoming,” says Joshua L. Love, a survivor of HIV/AIDS and drug addiction. His new book, Uncommon Hope , available on December 1, 2009 (World AIDS Day) is inspired by people whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS. Love found a journey to healing through faith, which led him to his current position as director of the Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC) Global HIV/AIDS Ministry and to oversee MCC's Drug and Addictions Literacy Program.
Love says, "Uncommon Hope unveils a strategy to end the silence and inaction by people of faith, in and out of organized religious communities, and other nonprofit agencies who feel called to partner in the work of bringing an end to HIV and AIDS. This step-by-step curriculum allows them to engage volunteers and employees in advocacy, public action, and social support of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
"We can do a lot to diminish the suffering of people living with HIV and AIDS and the unnecessary deaths caused by limited access to healthcare and support services. Local churches and faith-based organizations are often the support system of last resort for vulnerable people. We need to be equipped to act," says Love.
Rev. Dr. Donald E. Messer, author of Breaking the Conspiracy of Silence, said, "Metropolitan Community Churches was addressing the HIV and AIDS crisis before most other denominations were. While others were silent or condemning, MCC was on the forefront of offering Christ's inclusive love and compassion. Those of us in other denominations need to listen to and learn from MCC, as well as express our gratitude for their selfless ministry over the years."
Executive Director of the Center for Church and Global AIDS, Rev. Dr. Messer added, "In Joshua Love, MCC has an articulate and winsome spokesperson and leader. This superb curriculum, Uncommon Hope, will bless your life and your faith-based organizations and your communities in which they serve."
Joshua L. Love is a survivor of HIV and drug addiction, an activist in the Gay Men's Health Movement, and is committed to serving people where HIV/AIDS and addiction support services are unavailable or limited by extreme poverty and religious oppression. Love was published in IAPAC+, a publication of the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (Spring 2007); produced a documentary entitled We Who Are One Body: A Spiritual Walk with AIDS; and presented at the American Sociological Association 2009 Annual Conference.
He is a clergy candidate with Metropolitan Community Churches and is completing his Master of Divinity at Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2010, he will release a second book Deconstructing Meth, funded by the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Love travels the world to share a message of hope and spiritual renewal through preaching, workshops, and retreats.
About Metropolitan Community Church (MCC)
Metropolitan Community Church, founded in 1968, is a human-rights movement and ministry operating as a Christian denomination in 25 countries around the world. MCC has often been and continues to be one of few leading advocates for vulnerable people in places where religious orthodoxy, sexism, and homophobia can result in violence and death. MCC's promise is stated in its tagline "Tearing Down Walls. Building Up Hope."

About Uncommon Hope
Uncommon Hope offers a dynamic, small-group curriculum designed to support people of faith in answering God's call to end the silence and inaction magnifying the human suffering and death wrought by HIV and AIDS. Whether your church or faith-based organization is just beginning to engage in HIV/AIDS ministry or has a long history in the work, Uncommon Hope provides tools and experiences to foster the development of spiritual responses that are authentic to your community, consistent with the core teachings of all major faith traditions, and respectful of the rich diversity reflected in the lives most impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Uncommon Hope is open to and inclusive of all people living with HIV and AIDS, whether they are infected in the body or affected as concerned and caring community members. The program is a progressive, multi-unit curriculum packaged in six chapters, each comprising a combination of educational tools, engaged learning, public action, and social support. Participants are afforded the opportunity to acquire new skills and insight at each stage of the process: Awareness, Truths, Radical Change, and Inspiration.
If you hunger to minister at the true intersection of justice, mercy, compassion and hope, then read the pages of Uncommon Hope.
